Passenger port of St. Petersburg has seen the sailboat "Mir" off in a round-the-world voyage

Today, on 15th of April, a ceremony of the sailing vessel "Mir" departure in the first training voyage of 2017 took place.

The fastest sailing vessel in the world left the seaport Passenger port of St. Petersburg with 131 cadets on board heading to Germany, Wilhelmshaven, where they will be arriving in 12 days after departure from St Petersburg.

The ceremony was attended by Alexander Strelnikov, Deputy Director of the North-Western Branch of the FSUE "Rosmorport" Foundation, Rector of Admiral Makarov SUMIS Sergey Baryshnikov, the captain of Big Port St. Petersburg Alexander Volkov and other representatives of the city's marine elite.
 
The cadets of Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping and Arctic Sea Institute named after VI Voronin will strengthen theoretical knowledge and will acquire the practical skills necessary for future professional work during the practice of sailing on the legendary sailing vessel “Mir”. They will be trained in such specialties as navigation, operation of ship power plants and operation of ship electrical equipment, automation equipment, as well as sailing armament and sail practice.

The sailing vessel "Mir" is the most high-speed sailing ship in the world. It proves its status by the numerous victories, winning more than 20 races in its history. This year the sailing vessel will take part in such famous races as Sail Den Helder and The Tall Ships Races 2017.

This year it is exactly 30 years since the construction of the "Mir" in Poland (Gdansk) at Lenin’s shipyard.
