Until recently St. Petersburg as one of the most popular destinations in the world had no modern cruise and ferry complex. In less than 5 years the Marine Façade Company with active support of the Federal Government and the City of St. Petersburg constructed a new port. In 2011 the first in Russia dedicated passenger port was transferred into the ownership of St. Petersburg according to the special purpose programme “Implementation of Investment project of development of Marine Passenger Terminal on Vasiljevskiy Island, St. Petersburg".

For the time of its operation the Marine Façade has become an important feature of the cruise and ferry industry making St. Petersburg one of the most attractive centers for international tourism. The new port has been many times in the focus of attention of the cruise community. In March 2011 the Marine Façade received the Dream World Cruise Destination 2010 award for the Most Improved Port Facilities and in 2009 Seatrade Insider Cruise Award as the Transit Port of the Year.
