The opening ceremony of the memorial to Rear Admiral I.I. Chagin was held

On December 19, 2019, the leaders of “Passenger Port of St. Petersburg “Marine Façade” PLC (hereinafter referred to as “PP of SPb MF” PLC) took part in the opening ceremony of the memorial to Rear Admiral I.I. Chagin at the Nikolskoe Cemetery of Alexander Nevsky Lavra. The initiator of the restoration of the memorial monument was the Club of Admirals and Generals of the Navy (hereinafter referred to as the Club). The project was funded by “PP of SPb MF” PLC along with port partners, including: Vozrozhdenie, LLC; Arktur Travel, LLC; Inflot Worldwide Rus, LLC; TJ Travel, LLC; MIR Trading Company, LLC; Baltic Travel Company, LLC; Medny Vsadnik, LLC; Neva Travel Company, LLC.
For a long time, the burial of the hero of the battle of Tsushima was completely destroyed. Nevertheless, by the joint efforts of the port, the Club and private partners, the memory of the outstanding rear admiral was restored. The restoration project was prepared by Stanislav Chagin, a direct descendant of Chagin marine dynasty.
V.A. Kashirin, Director General of “PP of SPb MF” PLC, noted at the grand opening the value of the memorial as an example of the revival of historical memory, true patriotism and courage of Russian sailors and officers. Also V.A. Kashirin expressed his hope that the work on the restoration of monuments to the heroes would continue, thereby transferring the traditions of combat partnership, fraternity, naval military prowess to the young generation.
Ivan Ivanovich Chagin was Russian Rear Admiral, participant in the legendary battle of Tsushima, commander of Almaz cruiser, commander of the imperial yacht Standart. Almaz was the only cruiser that managed to reach the port of Vladivostok on May 29, 1905. The breakthrough of Almaz occurred during the last, decisive naval battle during the Russo-Japanese War.
At the end of the ceremony, representatives of “PP of SPb MF” PLC, the Russian Navy, Club members and descendants of I.I. Chagin laid flowers at the monument, honoring the memory of the hero. Also, the Consul General of Japan took part in the ceremony of laying flowers at the monument to Rear Admiral.
