Representatives of «Passenger Port of St. Petersburg «Marine Facade» PLC took part in a round table dedicated to the issue of the development of yacht tourism which was held on 6
th of October in Maritime Center Vellamo in Kotka (Finland) with support of the Committee for tourism development of St. Petersburg and City of Kotka.
The event gathered the main professionals in the field of yacht tourism, urban planning and management of transportation, associations of yachtsmen from both countries, and also representatives of ports and city administration. The main goal of the round table was discussion about the prospects of development and ways to attract the interest to the yacht tourism in St. Petersburg.
The discussion started following Ms. Terhi Lindholm opening speech, the Development Director at City of Kotka, who noted the importance of active cooperation with the Russian colleagues in the marine tourism development in these countries, in particular the organization of year-round ferry traffic connecting St. Petersburg and Kotka.
Also, Beryozkin A., advisor to the rector of the Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping, Ivankiv V., chairman of the International Committee for St. Petersburg sailing union and Anna Kiiski, executive Manager at Kotka Maritime Research Centre took part in a round table as the speakers.
During the meeting, the participants of the round table learned about the infrastructure opportunities of St. Petersburg to provide inbound yacht tourism, about legal orders of registration and the rules of crossing the border by yachts from abroad, discussed issues on increasing safety navigation for small-size vessels, and also listened the information about popular yacht clubs in St. Petersburg, touristic routes and massive marine festivals, such as "The Tall Ships Races Kotka 2017", which will bring together more than 300 thousand participants and more than 100 sailing boats from all around the world in Kotka in July next year.
