On February 10, the city’s largest open-air skating rink at the Passenger Port of St. Petersburg hosted the qualifying round of the Red Bull Helmet and Gloves, a major amateur ice hockey tournament in Russia.
In 2018 the qualifying rounds will take place in eleven cities across Russia. Volgograd, Novosibirsk, Almetyevsk and Sergiev Posad will host the event following St. Petersburg, Moscow, Kazan, Vladivostok, Tyumen, Voronezh and Yekaterinburg.
The competition is comprised of 64 teams fighting it out in the “four-by-four” format without goalkeepers in games consisting of two 15-minute periods.
This weekend’s round was won by the Foxes. The Passenger Port of St. Petersburg team also took part in the tournament and reached the 1/16 final.
The national final of the Helmet and Gloves tournament will be held in March 2018 in Moscow and will see the country’s strongest amateur teams competing, including the winner of the St. Petersburg round.
