On July 6th, 2014 in the Passenger Port of St. Petersburg "Marine Facade" was opened the exhibition "Russian Pilots serving the Fatherland", dedicated to the activities of pilotage services in different historical epochs. The exhibition is timed to the day of sea and river fleet workers, which is celebrated annually on the first Sunday of July. Organizers: University of Marine and River Fleet Admiral Makarov, Northwest Regional Branch of the Russian Academy of Transport and PLC "Passenger Port of St. Petersburg " Marine Facade".
Exposure recreates key moments of pilotage services activity in different periods and transitional stages in the life of our country and consists of three sections: "300 years Peter the Great’s Pilots", "400 years of Arkhangelsk pilots” and "150 years of service of Crown Pilots". Core of the exhibition is based on historical essays, memoirs descendant’s pilotage dynasties, archival documents. Also complement the exhibition documents the Archangel Pilotage Company and authentic items from a study of Kronstadt’s pilot craft Michael Matveevitch Prokofiev.
The purpose of the exhibition - to promote the preservation of national maritime heritage of the transport industry of the Russian Federation, patriotism education, awareness of civic duty, respect and love for one’s homeland by opening the little-known pages of maritime history of Russia.
The exhibition was opened by the Head of St. Petersburg State Maritime Academy Admiral Makarov Ivan Ivanovich Kostylev, author of "The pilots serving the Fatherland" Natalia Ivanovna Karalash, as well as the representatives of the Passenger Port of St. Petersburg. Head of the Academy - Ivan Ivanovich - congratulated visitors with holiday and noted the historical importance of this exhibition, which contains priceless archival material and allows plunge into the fascinating history of pilotage service in Russia. Project author - Natalia Ivanovna- thanked the representatives of the Passenger Port of St. Petersburg for their help in organizing the exhibition and the opportunity to place it at the Port. She stressed the uniqueness of this exposure and wished to organize new projects with Passenger port again.
