21 February 2019
Today, on February 21, 2019, in the House of Finland, V.A. Kashirin, Director General of “PP of SPb MF” PLC, signed the grant contract for the implementation of the large-scale infrastructure project for the reconstruction of the checkpoint at the State border of the Russian Federation in the Passenger Port of St. Petersburg “Marine Façade” worth EUR 2.56 million. From the Finnish side, the contract was signed by Satu Sikanen, Acting Director of the South-East Finland – Russia Cross Border Cooperation Programme 2014 – 2020 (hereinafter referred to as the Program). The grant is financed out of funds of the European Neighborhood Instrument under the Program. The European Commission decided to sign the grant contract in August 2018.
Completing the set of reconstruction activities for the checkpoint in the Passenger Port of St. Petersburg “Marine Façade” will contribute to the year-round freight and passenger ferry communication, what is the main reserve for increasing the total passenger traffic between St. Petersburg and other ports of the Baltic Sea; it will also create the necessary conditions for attracting ferry lines, the effectiveness of which depends directly on the cargo element.
The checkpoint reconstruction project will not only increase the passenger traffic and establish a regular ferry service, but also expand the geography of routes. Thanks to proactive cooperation with foreign partners, “PP of SPb MF” PLC previously entered into a cooperation agreement with the port of Hamina-Kotka which, as part of the Program, implements a “mirror” project and, at the same time, acts as a partner of “PP of SPb MF” PLC.
