19 September 2019
On September 19, 2019, Spirit of Discovery ship of the Saga Cruises lines made its first call to the Passenger Port of St. Petersburg. The passenger capacity of the new ship is 999 persons; the crew number is 505 people, and the ship’s length is 236 m. The ship made its first voyage in July, two weeks after the official baptismal ceremony on July 5, 2019. The ship was built in Germany for the British Saga Cruises at the Meyer Werft shipyard. Spirit of Discovery is the first of two ships ordered by Saga Cruises. The second ship – Spirit of Adventure – will be launched in the summer of 2020.
By tradition, representatives of the Passenger Port and the ship’s captain Julian Burgess exchange plaques onboard the liner.
