The famous sailing vessel "Mir" has arrived to Passenger Port of Saint Petersburg

Today, on 29th of November, a grand welcoming ceremony of the legendary training ship «Mir» was held at Passenger Port of Saint Petersburg.
The sailboat set off from the port of Travemünde (Germany) to the Sea capital of Russia on 21
st of November together with students of Siberian State University of Water Transport onboard, who has been having sailing training for two months.
During sailing on the high seas young seamen solidify their theoretical knowledge and gain practical skills, which are needed for the future professional careers. The total transport capacity is 199 people.
The welcoming ceremony has begun with a performance of the famous cadets’ orchestra of Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping. After that the captain of the sailing ship Andrey Orlov reported to the head of the FSUE "Rosmorport" on the successful navigation accomplishment. At the end of the event there was an excursion on the vessel for Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping cadets and guests organized.
In accordance with the maritime tradition the general director of “PP of SPb MF” PLC Vadim Kashirin has handed to the captain of the sailing vessel "Mir" Andrey Orlov a memorable plaquette in honor of the first vessel call to the Port.
At Passenger Port of Saint Petersburg "Mir" expects internavigational planned repairs, including servicing of systems and mechanisms, as well as repair of the galley equipment.
Next time «Mir» will go on a sailing voyage together with cadets on board in April 2017 after the winter navigation completing in St. Petersburg.
The sailing vessel "Mir" is the most high-speed sailing ship in the world. It proves its status by the numerous victories, winning more than 20 races in its history. This year the sailing vessel has taken part in the SCF Black Sea Tall Ships Regatta 2016 and won the first place following the results of all three stages of a competition.
Next year it is exactly 30 years since the construction of the "Mir" in Poland (Gdansk) at Lenin’s shipyard.
