Passenger port of Saint Petersburg held a sports festival «Marine Mile-2017»

On September 15, 2017 more than 800 athletes participated in the sixth sports festival "Marine mile-2017" which is traditionally celebrated at Passenger port of Saint Petersburg in collaboration with St. Petersburg Committee for Physical Culture and Sports and St. Petersburg City Administration.

Participants of the event were pupils of secondary and youth sports schools, cadets of Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping, students of St. Petersburg State Mining University, checkpoint officers of "St. Petersburg seaport - passenger", the Centre of Sport Vasilyevsky Island, representatives of the Baltic Customs, FSUE "Rosmorport",  "Passenger Port of Saint Petersburg "Marine Façade" PLC employees and also the team of the Veterans Council of the Vasileostrovsky district.
 
 
The sports festival was opened by the performance of the vocal-choreographic group of the Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping and words of encouragement by the honored guests of the event. Athletes were solemnly greeted by:
 
- a.i. of the "Passenger Port of Saint Petersburg "Marine Façade" PLC General Director Igor Latysh, who emphasized the good tradition of holding this event at Passenger Port of St. Petersburg and opened the event;
 
- the Deputy Chair of the St. Petersburg Committee on Transport Aleksey Lvov, who wished everyone active participation and sports victories;
 
- the Deputy Head of the Administration of the Vasileostrovsky District Natalya Nazarova, who has noted the importance of such events in sports promotion among youth;
 
- the deputies of the Sixth Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg Sergey Kupchenko and Konstantin Chebykin, who expressed gratitude for the organization and participation in this sports event and confirmation of St. Petersburg status as the most sportive city in Russia;

- repeated world and European champion, Olympic champion in the 400 m hurdles race Natalia Antyuh, who wished good luck to participants and belief in their forces.
 
 
 
Traditionally there were several track and field athletics disciplines with maritime character included in the event programme, such as 2171,05 m relay-race among young men and girls (berths length of Passenger of Port St. Petersburg), 670 m sprint (two lengths of the largest vessel within navigation « MSC Fantasia Royal»), 99,8 m sprint (lengths of the Icebreaker Krasin) and 1852 m long-distance race (1 nautical mile) – the main distance for the athletes, and also armwrestling, tug of war and weights lifting.
 
 
 
There was an extensive entertainment program for the guests throughout the day, bright performances of the First Children's Variety Center creative teams, MOBY SPL cheerleaders, talented cadets of "Makarovka", as well as students of teenage and youth centers of Vasileostrovsky district who were on stage in front of the modern fascinating landscapes of our city: the football stadium "St. Petersburg", Lakhta Center Tower and Western High Speed Diameter.
 
 
Organisers of the event have noted that the "Marine mile" is developing every year. So, this year for the first time within the framework of "Marine Mile-2017" with the support of the Dragon Boat Federation the "Rowing Festival" on the river Smolenka took place. Two days the participants of the Festival competed in races on yalas, dragon boats, rowing, saps and many other rowing sports.
 
 
 
For Vasilyevsky Island inhabitants this festival was especially memorable, as the organizers of the event offered citizens to try together with the athletes riding on a 10-person canoe with a dragon's head and tail. Also, on the second day of the competition, a field kitchen worked for the participants and guests of the Festival.
 
Sporting event was timed to the 280th anniversary of the Vasilyevsky Island district of St. Petersburg and organisers of the “Marine mile” express particular gratitude to Administration of Vasileostrovsky district of the city, the St. Petersburg Committee for Physical Culture and Sports and to numerous sponsors of the sports event such as “Astra Marin”, “Vozrozhdenie”, “Alla Tours”, “SPb-Tours”, “Classic Tour”, “Baltik Travel Company”, “MOBY SPL LIMITED”, “Third Park”, “Wake- Park "Kingwinch", "Bennett and Barrow", "Sports Club BUMP", "Glorax Development" for essential contribution to the organisation of competition and its prize fund formation. Champions and prize-winners were awarded with valuable prizes and gifts from "Passenger Port of Saint Petersburg "Marine Façade" PLC.
 
 

We are looking forward to the 7th sports festival “Marine mile-2018” at Passenger port of Saint Petersburg next year!
