The Sapphire Princess Cruise Liner First Called the Passenger Port
09 June 2018
Today, the Sapphire Princess cruise liner, operated by Princess Cruises, whose port of registry is London, first called the Passenger Port of Saint-Petersburg. The ship was built in Japan at the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries’ shipyard.
By tradition, the liner welcomed an on-board ceremony of exchanging commemorative plaques between representatives of the Port and the captain Heikki Juhani Laakkonen.
The cruise liner’s interior was created by the Japanese Okura Group who embodied on board the atmosphere of one of the best hotels in Tokyo – Okura Hotel. Distinctive features of the ship are a huge casino with lots of gaming machines and tables, and a formidable theater stage. There is also an art gallery on board; during a cruise, auctions are held for art connoisseurs. One of the central places on the upper deck is a swimming pool with an amphitheater that is open during the day, and in the evening this space turns into a cinema in the open air. Screenings are especially popular among guests – sports fans: broadcasts of football matches are regularly held there.
700 cabins with balconies, world class gastro bars and a lot of entertainment – and, according to representatives of Princess Cruises, “this is just the beginning”!
