Representatives of the Passenger Port of Saint Petersburg took part in CLIA Summit at Sea of the International Cruise Line Association
15 October 2018
From 11 to 14 October, the Symphony of the Seas of the Royal Caribbean International cruise line hosted aboard CLIA Summit at Sea, a regular summit of the International Cruise Line Association.
CLIA is the International Cruise Line Association that brings together the main players of the cruise industry: lines, ports, tour operators and other market experts. The Association was established in December 2012 to build up a political strategy and to strengthen business relations at the international level. The Association promotes cruise activities in new tourist regions and provides interaction between the main industry players.
The annual CLIA Summit at Sea is an international business platform to discuss urgent issues of the cruise market: development prospects for the international cruise market, major investment projects for the construction of port infrastructure, as well as international regulatory documents in the field of cruise shipping. This event is one of the most significant and representative in the general schedule of cruise industry events.
The key topics for discussion were the tendency to increase ship dimensions in building of cruise liners, the compliance of the port infrastructure with vessels of the new generation and bunkering of ships with new kinds of fuel, including LNG. Participants also discussed tools for promoting destinations on the cruise market. Representatives of CLIA told about industry prospects until 2028 and informed about the portfolio of orders for 105 new ships.
Within the framework of the summit, excursions to entry ports of the Symphony of the Seas were conducted for participants, namely Civitavecchia, Naples and Barcelona. Participants were able to visit cruise terminals, to get acquainted with the port infrastructure and experience in passenger operations. Meetings with representatives of cruise terminal operators were also organized.
At the summit, representatives of Passenger Port of Saint Petersburg "Marine Façade" PLC took part in round tables and held negotiations with Royal Caribbean International and MSC Cruises cruise lines regarding development prospects for cruise tourism in the Baltic region.
In a dialogue with representatives of CLIA, Passenger Port of Saint Petersburg "Marine Façade" PLC initiated to hold one of the association’s events in St. Petersburg.
